iOS (iPhone Operating System) has got its development before Android, due to its closed source codes, the operating system didn’t used by other mobile manufacturers, Apple inc. has first introduced their smartphone iPhone 1st generation powered with their own operating system iOS 1.0

Both Android and iOS powered phone have touch screen interface with great visual animations, but the home screen of iOS is less customizable when compared with Android home screen. Android allows you to add widgets, shortcuts on your home screen which saves your time whereas in iOS home screen you can only add frequently used apps and list of installed applications.

The status bar of Android and iOS gives you WiFi, signal, battery percentage, time information’s by default, but you can customise the status bar of Android to show data connection speed, custom notifications and other information’s without rooting.
Due to the openness of Android, mobile manufacturers are customising the home screen to give a personalised look for their brand mobiles, for example, Samsung uses TouchWiz, HTC uses sense, Lenovo uses vibe UI and some manufacturers like Moto uses stock UI.

In the interface section of Android vs iOS the Android takes the lead due to its freedom in customisation.

Apple uses their own processor to power their device, Apple Inc. has designed ARM v8-A 64-bit based processors which are named as A9 which is currently used in iPhone 6S and iPhone 6 plus. Android devices have variety of choice in the hardware section, Android phone with Intel processor are introduced. Google’s latest flagship Huawei Nexus 6P runs on Snapdragon 810 v2.1 due to the availability of processors with different price range manufacturers can build Android phones with different price range.

APPS AND PERMISSIONS:

Both iOS and Android comes with pre-installed applications, but Android devices come with bloatware stuffed into the phone manufactured by some companies such as Samsung. iPhone comes with necessary applications such as mail client, contacts, map as like as in Android phones.

You can get Google apps on iOS easily, but you won’t find any Apple applications on Google play store. Both platforms has their own app store to host the apps developed by developers, Apple app store won’t charge developers to host their applications instead they charge $99 per year to access their iOS SDK, but Google play store require developers to pay $25 for lifetime to host their apps on play store and they give Android SDK for free and anyone can develop Android application without paying for the codes.

When we look at permission control of the application is way better in iOS than Android until the new update rolled out for Android. Now you can control the permission required by a particular application on Android also this makes the Android vs iOS apps competition between iPhone and Android in app ecosystem equal.

TOUCH ID:

Touch id is first introduced in Apple devices and it was a huge hit, touch id used to unlock the phone and making an app purchase in the app store. Android devices lack this feature but not for long time period, Samsung is the first company to introduce an Android phone with Fingerprint sensing sensor which unlock the phone with the fingerprint. Now Google’s new devices Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X ships with Fingerprint sensors!

SECURITY:

Everyone knows that iOS is better than Android in terms of security, Apple’s iPhone are secured than Android phones. However, you can jailbreak iOS but Apple claims that their new iOS version cannot be rooted this might increase the security section of Apple’s iPhone devices.

Android devices have active developer community there are many ways to acquire root access on your Android phone in addition to it app piracy in Android is the way too high in rate when compared with iOS app piracy.

Monument valley is a puzzle game which is a huge hit on both app stores

Interesting fact: Only 5% of Monument Valley installs on Android are paid for. 40% on iOS. There’s a sneak peak of data!— ustwogames (@ustwogames) January 5, 2015
ustwogames tweets the stats via twitter when the Apple app store stats released on January 2015.

Beside app piracy, malware is being distributed via Android app which are available at third party websites (not all sites) there is no problem till you use Google play store for installing apps.

UPDATES:

There is no doubt in Google’s Android get the frequent updates when compared with the iOS but the problem in this updates are not every Android user can install this updates on their phone. There are still some users who use Gingerbread and Jellybean version when Google releases the newest update Marshmallow.

Apple devices are getting updates at regular intervals they release their updates to all active devices to keep their users with them. The problem in the Android updates are with the manufacturers of Android mobile phone they introduce many models, but they are rolling updates for only a few devices.

If Google takes the control of releasing updates for all Android phones it will improve the reach of their newest updates to worldwide users. In the update section of Android vs iOS, the iOS takes the lead over Android.

VOICE CONTROLS:

Both iOS and Android offers voice controls using Siri and Google now respectively. These both virtual assistants allow you to do voice search on the web, finding places, booking tickets, checking scores, reading out messages, making verbal reminders, typing messages and much more.

Recently Microsoft Corporation has released their virtual assistant Cortana for Android mobiles.

INTERNET:

Stock Android uses Google’s Chrome browser as its default internet browser, Android built by device manufacturers may use another browser as their default browser. Apple’s iOS uses Safari browser as its default internet browser.

Again Chrome is available for iOS but safari browser is not available for Android platform.

CUSTOMISATION:

This is the place where Android wins over iOS, Android allows users to customise their device according to their own needs. You can change fonts, notification panel, quick settings, themes, home screen widgets, lock screen widgets etc. This leads to the rise of active developer community all over the Internet.

If you root your Android phone this goes beyond the limit, you can try various custom ROM on your device, custom kernels to boost your device performance, change the complete look of your phone, automation, removing bloatware and much more.

iOS devices have only one manufacturer (Apple) and have their own standard hardware so they nearly have the same price all over the world but in case of Android they have multiple choices, hence there are lot of choices for you to choose devices according to your budget there are both low budget phone and high budget phones are available on Android this attracts consumer all over the world.

Approaching the end of the post, Android vs iOS which is best? Which platform should you choose? If you’re not worrying about limited customization of user interface and price you can choose iOS devices like iPhone.
