1. Remove unused apps:

Take a look at your app drawer and count how many applications has been installed on your phone. Most of them are frequently used and some of them will used in lower frequency, so uninstall those unused apps. Android application will sync data in background inorder to deliver you best user experience apps will use your Internet connection to fetch data from the server. Keeping unused apps on your phone will draw your Internet data. Get rid of those apps and ensure you have useful apps installed on your Android phone.

2. Set data usage limit:

You can set data usage limit setting to keep track of your Internet data usage and get notified when you exceed the data limit. If you are Jellybean and up version user you can setup the data usage limit feature on your Android phone.

To set data usage limit navigate to Settings -> Data usage and enable the data usage limit option. Now set the limit of your data usage in the graph below the option. Use the slider handle on the graph to set the limit. You will see two slider, the first slider allows you to set a warning limit when you reached this limit you will a warning notification in your notification panel. The second slider is used to set the total limit of your data usage, this will turns your Internet connection when you exceed the data limit. This feature helps you to prevent getting charged by network carrier due to extra usage than allowed quota.

3. Restrict background data usage:

Restricting the background data usage allows you to save more data, it ensures the data is used only by the app you use currently. Applications which runs on background will not be able to access the data connection.

You can restrict the background data usage using the option available at Data usage settings. By restricting the background some apps will not be able to fetch data to notify you. For example Facebook, Twitter like social apps will use the data from background to send notification to you. In addition to that Google Play store needs background data to download and install applications on your phone.

Another annoying thing is you will see a notification on the notification panel about restricted background data it is unremovable and if you have root you can remove it by using some Xposed modules. You can also set the limit when you use WiFi network for Internet connectivity.

4. Turn of auto sync:

Auto sync allows the application to sync data whenever data connection is available. If you have dropbox, flickr, Google photos app installed and auto backup enabled the photo you have taken will automatically synced to your cloud account. You may think it doesn't take too much of data yes it won't take data if there is only one or two photos, when you look back your cloud account it will have Gigabytes of photos synced into your account. So turn off the auto backup feature if you want to save more data and upload manually when needed.

In addition to that you can also disable the push notification in Facebook and Twitter app to save your data.

5. Use lite version browser:

Browser is the main app which uses your data, if you spend too much time on browsing your data will consumed higher. So use a lite version of browser like UC mini and lightweight browser like opera mini. Chrome also have Bandwidth management option which allows you to choose when to pre load the web pages, make use of these settings and save your data.

If you're more conscious about data limit then try to browse website with text only option. All most every browser will have this option you can use this option to prevent loading images on the web page. If a website have lite version try to use the lite version of that website instead of using the regular version of the website.
